“AVODAH” (Hebrew) means Work, Worship and Service. Founded in 2019 in Christchurch by John Bruce, the group was initially a men's ministry group - a safe space where men could learn to trust, relax and just be themselves. Building a bond of friendship with like minded men to enhance each others journey in recovery. The group has grown and branched out, helping people in the community with the essential necessities such as food, shelter and support. "Avodah Spiritual Respite" is an extension of our mission, providing a temporary interval of respite from difficulty.

We are a ministry arm of Vineyard Church in Kaikoura delivering a Christian Spiritual program to those wishing to make life changes by taking timeout for healing and growth with a loving relationship in Jesus Christ. The program consists of Spirituality groups, bible study, recovery groups, community-based groups, gardening/farm work. Also, the program has an outdoor component of deep-sea fishing, hunting, cray fishing, surf casting, diving and eeling.
