UPDATE ON SPIRITUAL RESPITE PLACEMENT

Due to high demand, current placement levels and constraints placed on us by the need for staff training and upgrades to our facilities we regret that we are unable to accept any more referrals for placement until the end of the year. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused by this. Please don't hesitate to reach out for other support if you need to. We will send out further updates later in the upcoming months, so make sure you've signed up to receive our newsletter.

REFERRALS

You can make a Referral for a person (whanau, friend, colleague, associate) to attend the Avodah Spiritual Respite based in Kaikoura, NZ. Referrals are confidential and a necessary part of the process of acceptance to participate in our programs. Please complete the  referral with as much information as possible.

NB. You can also refer yourself - simply

use the Self Referral Form.

Are you or your family seeking support? We offer specialist family violence services to adults, families, youth, and children who have experienced or are experiencing family violence. We also offer services for users of violence who wish to live without violence.

 If you would like to request support, download and follow the directions to fill in the self referral form and return it to us, or fill in online. You can also contact us directly. Also if this is an emergency please call 111.

Our Program

Referrals:

Clients come to AVODAH either through another agency, the Family Court, NZ Police, or through a self-referral where you contact us directly. You may be referred as part of the Family Court or Corrections process.

If you are taking up an AVODAH placement voluntarily, money will never be a barrier to receiving help. Work and Income may help cover costs. 

Exclusions for Referrals: Avodah Charitable Trust reserves the right to ensure that certain criteria are met. Exclusions for Referrals (for placement at Avodah Spiritual Respite Kaikoura) include:

  • Those under 17 years of age

  • Active psychotic disorder

  • History of sexual offences against minors / adults

  • Arson

We are a ministry arm of Vineyard Church in Kaikoura delivering a Christian Spiritual program to those wishing to make life changes by taking timeout for healing and growth with a loving relationship in Jesus Christ. We are set on a 15-acre property in Hapuku, 9km north of Kaikoura where the Vineyard Church is based.

While residing with Avoda Charitable Trust, residents participate in weekly scheduled  programs encouraging spiritual growth combined with a 12-step program and active engagement within the community. The program requires total absence from non-prescribed drugs and alcohol and full participation.

 

The program consists of Spirituality groups, bible study, recovery groups, community-based groups, and gardening/farm work. In addition the program has an outdoor component of deep-sea fishing, hunting, cray fishing, surf casting, diving and eeling.

All attendees must be will to commit to:

  • BE HONEST - with yourself and with those around you.

  • BE OPEN -  share your thoughts and feelings, and to listen.

  • BE RESPECTFUL - you may be in close contact with others going through similar issues, or with people trying to help. Respect goes a long way to building trust. 

  • WORK - Creating honest relations with one another through working together and sharing common goals.

  • SERVICE - Coming together to perform a service for those that need help within our community.

  • WORSHIP - Worship involves talking openly about, building and acknowledging a faith within our group.

Once we have received your initial referral or application for placement we may need additional information. This is so that we can contact the people or organizations involved in your case and gather the details required to process your application.

Our Commitment to you

Avodah provides attendees with:

  • Accommodation -  bedding/pillows supplied, TV/radio

  • Food - for duration of stay

  • Transport - to programs, appointments (i.e. Doctor), Church, weekly shopping

  • Rehabilitation Services

  • Spiritual Programs

  • Bond (*conditions apply; equals 2 weeks rent) and Rent

Admission costs are covered by Work & Income NZ (WINZ)

Each Block Course runs for 3 months.
